3D Embroidery of Floral Females With Hair and Dresses Flowing Off the Hoop

We’ve seen many experimental embroidery techniques lately, but Dutch fiber artist Ceren (aka Kayra Handmade) takes the popular craft a step further by thinking outside of the conventional embroidery hoop. Favoring female subjects, her ethereal designs feature three dimensional elements, such as flowing hair and fabric, that cascade from the textile canvas. Each piece is made by hand, using cotton threads, delicate fabric, and beads stitched on raw cotton fabric.

Japanese Artist Crafts Incredibly Realistic Cats Out of Felted Wool

The traditional needle felting technique is becoming more and more popular among crafters, with many textile artists using wool’s fuzzy fibers to create charming sculpted creations. One creative to master this craft is Japanese artist Wakuneco, who creates hyper-realistic hand-felted cat faces. Each incredible three-dimensional, felted feline is made by painstakingly poking layers of wool with a needle until the fibers gradually compact and form into solid shapes.

The talented artist constructs three-dimensional embroidery art installations, featuring delicate textile motifs that float in gallery spaces. Describing her work as “thread drawings,” McCavour uses a sewing machine to illustrate her designs on a special type of water-soluble fabric called Solvy.
