NASA Publishes Extraordinary Satellite View of California Wildflowers in Bloom

Each spring, California's Antelope Valley explodes with color as vast quantities of flowers bloom. While there are several types of wildflowers in the mix, it's the state flower—the California poppy—that is the star of the show. Typically visitors flock to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve to take in the breathtaking scene, but this year is proving a bit different. With the reserve temporarily closed due to COVID-19 measures, in-person poppy watching isn't possible.

Learn the Magical Reason Why Some Minerals Transform Color

Did you know that, just like a mood ring, some minerals can change color? Instead of being affected by temperature, however, these minerals magically transform when exposed to light. The phenomenon, known as tenebrescence, might be more familiar to people when they think of light-adaptive sunglasses. Just as these lenses lighten and darken according to the type of light they're exposed to, tenebrescent minerals change color in the same way.

Bees Create Heart-Shaped Hive, Prove They’re Nature’s Best Architects

If you ever needed evidence that bees were artists, take a look at this incredible photograph posted by Brian Fanner (of Luna Design Company). The South African designer decided to gift his wife with a heart made of honeycomb, so he called on the help of some Cape honey bees. He took a board and added a quick slotted design of a heart and a couple of swirls to help guide them.
