As a young widow with three kids, my mom had to do it all. She had a fulltime job, she cooked, cleaned, and kept us healthy, she drove us to all of our events and activities, she tried not to kill us when we drove her nuts, and she did it all with incredible strength and flair! For every mom out there, this series called She Can Leap Tall Buildings by photographer Heidi Lender is a tribute to all that you do.
As kids, we don't always realize the many things a parent has to deal with in order to maintain a happy home. Lender says it best in the project description: “Preoccupied with growing up, I was oblivious to this amazing juggling act. But from my adult woman perspective, it seems a heroic and near-impossible feat–not to mention a struggle.”
Lender's approach to the project–a faceless female character performing everyday tasks in a generic setting–creates a universality to which we can find connection. At some point or another, we've all had to find the time to go to work, make dinner, wash our clothes, and clean our homes (hopefully!). And as lives become filled with more and more responsibilities, Lender says, “I humbly nod to all the superwomen of the world, especially my mother, who amazingly do it all.”
