Frozen Flowers Melt Away Dramatically in Blocks of Ice

To create his Locked in the ether series, Kenji Shibata froze an array of flowers in blocks of ice, temporarily locking the full blooms in all their glory. Then, he let the ice melt and photographed the weepy wilting and thawing process. As the ice relinquishes its grip on the flowers, bruised petals and discolored stems emerge in striking color. Streaks of water and thin veneers of ice measure depth in the photos.

Heartwarming Photos of Children and Their Pets by Elena Shumilova

After Russian photographer Elena Shumilova's adorable photos of her two sons and their farm animals went viral, she was approached by Petcurean, a premium pet food company, to create a full series of images that centered around the special bond between children and their pets. The photos include one where a young boy is sleeping soundly with his puppy, to a sweet girl rubbing her face softly against her cat.

Most reprints of classic books are dominated by large companies that produce low-quality paperbacks with bland covers, as David Mautz discovered when he was looking for a nice set of classic paperbacks. Frustrated by the limited options available, he founded Rock Paper Books, a startup publishing company dedicated to working with independent artists to create clean, minimalist book cover designs.
