Extraordinary Detailed Hobo Nickel Carvings by Paolo Curcio

Impressively detailed, these miniature relief sculptures are carved into coins by Paolo Curcio, known artistically as Mr The. The generic term for this art form is hobo nickel, but any denomination of coin may be used. Curcio is particularly good at using clad coins, which are made of multiple layers of metal. He strategically whittles away the surfaces to reveal different colored details and backgrounds.

The clever stylings of these culinary masters feature witty arrangements and subtle humor that will make you smile. Commercial food photographers Pierre Javelle and Akiko Ida have been developing their playfully miniature series since 2002. Entitled Minimiam–a blend of the words “miniature” and “miam” (yummy in French)–the project documents the lives of tiny toy people set against delightfully delicious backdrops.
