Swirling Lines Form Psychedelic Portraits

These Self-Portraits and Liquid Friends are energetic paintings by Nikos Gyftakis. Using vibrant colors and swirling brush strokes, the Greek artist blends curves and circular lines together to form each oil painting. From a distance, eyes and faces stare out at the viewer. Upon closer inspection, each face transforms into an abstract blur of patterns and textures. Gyftakis uses continuous lines to create constant movement that changes within the variations of light and shadow.

Poetic Lights Reveal Classified Information About Dutch Spies

I Can Burn Your Face is a text-based neon light installation by artist Jill Magid that plays off of the phrase “To burn a face” used by the Dutch secret service (AIVD) to mean exposing a source's identity. The series, which has been altered over time, is a direct presentation of Magid's own notes, written upon meeting participating members of the AIVD. The neon lights are even produced in the artist's own handwriting.

Enter the Slightly Surreal World of Stephen Criscolo

Today, I found and fell in love with the slightly surreal photography of Stephen Criscolo. A recent high school graduate, Criscolo is now attending the University of Georgia and studying Photojournalism. Like many young talents, the 19-year-old is completely self-taught. As you can tell by his photo manipulation skills, he's equally comfortable behind the camera as he is in front of his computer.
