VW Beetles Compressed into Circular Balls and Cubes

Beetle Sphere is a sculptural composite of five Volkswagen Beetles compressed into one spherical ball by Indonesian artist Ichwan Noor. The 180cm3 metallic orb, which was recently unveiled at Art Basel Hong Kong, is comprised of real parts from 1953 models of the car, combined with polyester and aluminum. The Jakarta-based sculptor, who is no stranger to working with such a large-scale medium (specifically automobiles)

The Archeology of Art: Giant Bronze Seashells

British sculptor Marc Quinn creates a multitude of large-scale structures that draw a resemblance to nature. His latest works, a series of giant bronze seashells, are what he calls The Archeology of Art. According to Quinn, “the form of the shell is like a found structural diagram of how the present becomes the past, with the rings on the outside of the shell suggesting the past and a polished reflective front showing the present.

Illustrator Doodles Photorealistic Ballpoint Pen Portraits

English artist Everett Jacob creates intricately crafted large-scale portraits using a simple ballpoint pen. What separates his ink drawings from others is his pattern of scribbles coupled with an intriguing gridded method. At times, his process involves loops, much like a person idly doodling, while other times he practices a technique similar to pointillism. In either case, the 23-year-old illustrator manages to meticulously concentrate and disperse his scribbles to accentuate a sense of photorealism.
