Ceramic Stories – Kim Simonsson

“Guardian Angel” Kim Simonsoon is a young Finnish sculptor who lives in Helsinki. He makes striking ceramic sculptures of cute, big-eyed young girls and deer, derived from Japanese manga comics. His work questions the role of the child and nature in the modern world. “Authority in its' many forms fascinates me and in my works I want to reverse the common beliefs by making the weak powerful.” (Kim Simonsson)

Introducing the Panda Elephant

After the birth of one cute little panda bear last month, Thailand's national symbol – the elephant, wasn't getting much love. Determined to steal some attention back, keepers at the Ayutthaya-Elephant Kraal decided to take drastic action, painting five of their neglected giants in watercolor paint, then parading them before schoolchildren. While these guys are pure awesome, I can see animal activists all over this one. What are your thoughts?
