Clever Ad: Record Player Made from a Cardboard Box and a Pencil

Vancouver-based sound studio Griffiths, Gibson and Ramsay Productions is mailing out cardboard boxes that can be used as record players. Designed by ad firm Grey Canada, the player works by placing the 45 rpm record on the peg, lowering the needle, and spinning the record with a pencil. The gadget then plays a recording of the children's story “A Town That Found Its Sound.” Apparently the sound quality is not bad, from what we've read.

Incredible Three-Dimensional Wire Cars (12 pics + video)

Lamborghini Countach II These three-dimensional wire car sculptures by Uk-based artist Benedict Radcliffe are beyond incredible. The cars almost look as though they've been computer generated, but in actuality they are full scale representations made from 10mm steel tubes welded together. Apparently, local traffic cops weren't so impressed with Radcliffe's masterpieces. When parked on the street over the course of a few days, his wire cars were issued a few parking tickets!

Naked City Spleen by Miru Kim (16 photos + video)

I wanted to re-feature this post because even after the last two years, it's still one of my personal favorites… This collection by Miru Kim truly blows me away. Taking naked self-portraits in places we wouldn't dare visit, Miru draws beauty from old and abandoned subway stations, tunnels, aqueducts, catacombs, factories, hospitals, and morgues. It takes a lot of guts and willpower to visit these desolate places all alone.
