Steve Irwin’s 15-Year-Old Son Is Already a “Highly Commended” Photographer

Every year, London's famed Natural History Museum hosts its annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Welcome to photographers “young, old, professional or amateur,” the contest showcases work by applicants from all walks of life. This year, this age-inclusive competition culminated in accolades for Robert Irwin, the teenage son of Steve Irwin, the late “Crocodile Hunter.” Irwin's photograph, The Catch, has been selected as a “Highly Commended” photograph among the competition's “11-14 Years Old” category.

Mark Your Calendars for a Rare Super Blood Wolf Moon Appearing in January 2019

If you love stargazing, you have an even better reason to look forward to 2019. The new year is going to start off brilliant thanks to a rare phenomenon called a Super Blood Wolf Moon. It will occur on January 20 or January 21, depending on your location in the United States. The totality of the event, or the point at which it's the most visible, will happen at about 9:12 p.m. PST (January 20) or 12:12 a.m. EST (January 21).

Virtual Museum Lets You View the Complete Works of Vermeer in Augmented Reality

Johannas Vermeer is one of art history's most important painters. While his body of work comprises less than 40 pieces, his paintings can be found in a myriad of museums—both real and imaginary. In Meet Vermeer, a digital platform created by Google Arts & Culture and the Mauritshuis Museum, Vermeer's entire body of work is “illuminated in the virtual space” and presented in augmented reality.

Amazing Engineer Transforms Ordinary Sheets of Paper into Tactile Tessellations

Artist Matthew Shlian transforms ordinary sheets of paper into incredible three-dimensional tessellations. Using a series of complex, repeating folds, Shlian’s paper sculptures take on a life of their own. Many feature spikes that jut from a flattened surface and the individual elements are positioned to move in giant waves across the entire piece. Previously, Shlian’s work was clad in a black-and-white color palette.
