Taken off the Cantabrian coast in Spain, these photos by Jose Ramon Irusta are nothing short of extraordinary. The self-taught photographer has developed an incredible, personal style through thoughtful composition and careful attention to light. His main motivation in capturing Spain's landscapes is to help preserve the coast by raising awareness of its beauty.
When we asked Irusta what he loved most about shooting water, here is what he told us:
“Water is an element of great artistic plasticity, free of any temporal binding. It is able to catch an ephemeral moment and yet, like no other element, can transmit the sensation of running time. A violent wave hits the coast, the trail of foam in the sand draws into retirement, a misty sea is made more magnificent by long exposure. These things give each picture a magical moment that will never reoccur.”
