Minimalist Posters Feature Playful Pop Culture References

These playful posters are filled with pop culture references that any TV or movie fan will enjoy. Paris-based artist Alize Lafon is both a filmmaker and a graphic designer, and she has blended these two interests into this series, entitled Movies Hipster Kits. From shows like Mad Men to movies like 007, Pulp Fiction, and The Big Lebowski, the minimalist posters feature a handful of key, defining items that are portrayed through simple illustrations, symmetrical layouts, and soft color palettes.

Viewers will be affected by the posters differently based on their familiarity with cultural trends. Some references, like James Bond's bowtie, Don Draper's Lucky Strike cigarettes, and The Dude's fondness for bowling, have become culturally iconic. As a result, viewers will quickly generate associations with the fictional characters while other, possibly less well-known, references may require further investigation to fully understand the visual narrative. Regardless of each person's personal connection to the images, Lafon's clean and simple style result in a creative interpretation that tells a playful story with just a few simple objects.
