Living Inside a Magical Bubble

In Trees, Paris 1963

American photographer Melvin Sokolsky played a major role in the revival of fashion photography in the 1960s. One of his most famous fashion photo shoots was the Bubble series which he shot for Harper's Bazaar when he was just 21-years-old. The series shows fashion models floating through the air, contained in giant clear plastic bubbles. Some would say that the bubbles would signifying how untouchable these women were from the rest of society or perhaps how isolated they felt.

These beautiful photos rank among the classics of photography. They are light and playful in a truly magical way.
