Situated in Tokyo, Japan, on a small, triangular plot of land, architect Kota Mizuishi has created a beautiful new house for a family of three. House in Horinouchi is top heavy and may look a little bizarre but it's a great example of working within spatial limitations. While seemingly cramped, the Horuinouchi House is a beautifully minimal design.
The top half of the house is clad in steel, and it cantilevers out to make a small overhang. This creates a sheltered roof for a car instead of taking up space for an entire garage. The top half's interior includes the living room, a kitchen/dining room, a small spare room and a loft that serves as the child's room. This top floor also includes two large rectangular windows that extend out of the house to create a balcony in one and a built-in desk in the other. The bottom floor of the house holds the master bedroom and bath. This cozy house costs 150,000,000 yen to build which comes out to roughly $198K.
