After Two Decades, the Grand Egyptian Museum Has Finally Opened in Giza

Since 2012, planned openings for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza have come and gone, mostly thanks to funding issues, logistical hurdles, the pandemic, nearby wars, and multiple revolutions. Just this past summer, GEM pushed its July 2 opening due to conflicts between Iran and Israel in the surrounding region. But now, after more than 20 years of construction and delays, the sprawling, 120-acre museum has finally opened in its entirety.

Picasso’s Newly Rediscovered Portrait of Dora Maar Sells for $37 Million

On October 24, 2025, a newly rediscovered Pablo Picasso painting of Dora Maar was sold for €32.01 million (about $37.15 million) by Lucien Paris. The final price tag was almost four times higher than the Parisian auction house’s original estimate, which sat at €8 million (about $9.45 million). Ruth Asawa’s Landmark Retrospective Has Landed in New York at the MoMA

After its five-month run at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA), the first posthumous retrospective of Ruth Asawa’s work has finally landed in New York at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The landmark exhibition, aptly titled Ruth Asawa: A Retrospective, gathers nearly 400 objects, each representing various points, moods, and sources of inspiration throughout Asawa’s six-decade career.

Lost DalĂ­ Work Originally Bought for $200 at House Sale Snags Over $60,000 at Auction

Two years ago, a local antiques and art dealer purchased a watercolor and felt-tip painting at a house clearance sale in Cambridge for £150 (about $200). Since then, the artwork has been positively identified as Salvador Dalí’s long-lost Vecchio Sultano. Then, on October 23, 2025, the Surrealist composition went to auction in the U.K., where it snagged a whopping £45,700 (nearly $61,000).
