Daniel Popper’s Surreal Art Lands at Burning Man

South African artist Daniel Popper is known for his mystical, large-scale installations. Often seen at art and music festivals around the world, there’s been one renowned festival that’s been missing his touch for quite awhile—Burning Man. After a 10-year absence, Popper finally made his way back to the Black Rock Desert with Mycelia. While Popper had been to Burning Man previously, he’d never mounted an artwork at the iconic festival.

Chess-Inspired Drawings Fuse Fragmentation and Contrast Into a New Way of Storytelling

Chess is all about strategy and rules, but luck and fate also seem to play a hand. Sydney-based artist Sasha Krautman believes that there’s “so much symbolism to be found in one game, in one simple black and white pattern.” Drawing inspiration from the classic two-player board game, she created the Chess Collection, a series of 12 colored pencil drawings where two contrasting images share the same wooden panel.

Giant Sleeping Dachshund Sleeps on the Floor of a Futuristic Store in Seoul

While most retail stores don’t allow dogs inside, Gentle Monster’s new headquarters and flagship, Haus Nowhere Seoul, makes an exception. Located in the Seongsu neighborhood, the 13-story, dream-like complex features an unexpected centerpiece—a giant animatronic dachshund peacefully napping in the middle of the space. With gently moving ears, a twitching nose, and a body that rises and falls to the rhythm of its breath, the mechanical canine sculpture looks incredibly lifelike.
