Conceptual ‘Black Villa’ Offers Unexpected Drama To a New York Forest

Architect Reza Mohtashami has designed a conceptual Black Villa in Harriman State Park, New York. The single-family home was announced through a series of architectural renderings that depict the interior and exterior of the villa. When asked about his design process on the project, Mohtashami explained that the dark palette was an important concept. “Black is very vague,” he says. “Black means power and has a high character and prestige. It is very mysterious.

Shenzhen’s New Natural History Museum Mimics the Flow of the Nearby River

Shenzhen is quickly transforming into the “Silicon Valley” of southeastern China. With the emergence of hardware innovation and imitation tech production (called Shanzhai), it suggests a shifting identity for the city. Floating ‘Woodnest’ Cabins Are Tiny Self-Supported Treehouses in the Norwegian Forest

The Woodnest cabins are a modern getaway hidden amongst the trees in Odda, Norway. Each abode sits perched on a single tree and attaches to the trunk via a steel collar. This eliminates the need for additional structures below, and all that's visible is the still-growing pine tree that pierces the cabins. This minimally invasive approach was carefully designed by Helen & Hard Architects to respect the existing land and steep topography.
