Bauhaus: How the Avant-Garde Movement Transformed Modern Art

Throughout the 20th century, several styles of avant-garde art helped shape modern art. While many of these genres—including subconscious-based surrealism and energetic abstract expressionism—predominantly favored paintings, the Bauhaus movement encompassed a wide array of mediums, materials, and disciplines. Ranging from paintings and graphics to architecture and interiors, Bauhaus art dominated many outlets of experimental European art throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Though it is most closely associated with Germany, it attracted and inspired artists of all backgrounds.

The Simpson’s Family Home Reimagined in Different Architectural Styles

Springfield's 742 Evergreen Terrace—the suburban two-story detached residence that’s home to The Simpsons—is possibly one of the most recognizable homes on TV. The home has hardly changed since first airing in 1989, and features a garage, basement, attic, and a large garden complete with a brown picket fence. By design, the fictional family home encapsulates the American suburban stereotype.

Zaha Hadid Architects’ Energy Research Campus in Riyadh Opens to the Public

More than 20,000 visitors got a chance to admire Zaha Hadid Architects‘ latest project when the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Centre (KAPSARC) opened to the public for the first time during Saudi Design Week. The center, located in Riyadh, is a non-profit dedicated to investigating policies that aid in efficient energy usage, and as such, was built with this mission in mind.

Gigantic Treetop Walkway Offers Spiraling Elevated Path Through Preserved Forest

Architecture firm EFFEKT designed a magnificent, spiraling walkway called Camp Adventure Treetop Experience. It’s currently being constructed in Gisselfeld Klosters Skove preserved forest—one hour south of Copenhagen. The award-winning design comprises an epic 2,000-foot-long, curved wooden ramp that rises from the forest floor up to the observation deck, spiraling upwards to an impressive height of 150 feet. From the top, the structure provides a stunning, panoramic view of the entire forest.
