2,000 Drones Transform Nighttime Skies With “Living Light” Over Abu Dhabi

Light becomes a living presence in Abu Dhabi as night falls across the city. For the outdoor light festival Manar Abu Dhabi, Dutch multidisciplinary art studio DRIFT brings its signature language of motion and illumination to the city’s open-air landscape, creating experiences that feel both futuristic and deeply organic. This year, the innovative team (founded by artists Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta) unveiled three large-scale installations—Whispers, Unfold, and Wind of Change—across Jubail Island.

Colorful Field of 8,800 Mirrored Flowers Celebrates the Diversity of the Netherlands

During Dutch Design Week 2025, Ulrike Jurklies and Paul Bas of studio mo man tai presented Reflecting Diverseness, a vibrant installation made up of 8,800 mirrored flowers crafted from upcycled waste materials. Each flower represents one in every 2,000 Dutch residents, coming together to form a colorful portrait of a society that is richly diverse and interconnected.

Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh Statues Finally Restored After Surviving an Earthquake 2,000 Years Ago

More than 1,200 years after they were damaged by an earthquake, the two alabaster statues of Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep III—known as the Colossi of Memnon—have been partially restored. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities recently unveiled the newly conserved, 30-feet-tall monuments at the entrance to the ancient king’s 86-acre burial site near Luxor. King Amenhotep III ruled Egypt from around 1388 to 1349 BCE, during one of the civilization’s most prosperous and influential periods.

Concrete Cars Submerged in the Ocean Aim To Revitalize Florida’s Coral Population

Off the coast of Miami Beach, something unexpected has plunged into the ocean: a series of concrete cars. Created by conceptual artist Leandro Erlich, this aquatic traffic jam was unveiled earlier this month during Miami Art Week, and inaugurates the ReefLine, a new, 7-mile underwater sculpture park that merges ocean advocacy, site-specific art, and ecological restoration. Aptly titled Concrete Coral, the installation consists of 22 life-size cars, each cast from marine-grade, pH-neutral concrete.
