Thought-Provoking ‘Hourglass’ Installations Immerse Visitors in the Sands of Time

Artist Daniel Arsham’s Hourglass exhibit challenges our understanding of, and relationship with, history through a synthesis of audio, sculpture, architecture, and performance art. The ambitious work is currently on display at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art, and it immerses us in spaces that simultaneously reflect the past and present. The thought-provoking endeavor includes three disparate installations that are linked through mythology and bright colors. The latter is a first for Arsham.

Elegant Installation Visualizes Music as Pastel Pink Bubbles

In his fanciful photographic series Filling Spaces, graphic designer and practiced pianist Federico Picci imagines music materialized as delicate, blush-colored bubbles. Much like a melodic tune, the dreamy orbs whimsically waft through the air, occupying any empty space with their ethereal presence. The photographs that comprise the splendid series are set in a sunlit space.

Artist Uses Optical Illusions to Create Mind-Bending Room Installations

We’ve been fans of Peter Kogler’s psychedelic room installations since last year, when we he wowed us with his warped walls and trippy walkways. Now, the Austrian artist continues to bend time and space with a new series of impressively perplexing optical illusion rooms. Using simple, intersecting lines and bold graphics, Kogler transforms the simple white walls and flat floors of galleries, typical transit stations, and ordinary lobbies into canvases for his optical illusions.

Artist “Paints” with Gunpowder and Finishes His Work by Setting It on Fire

Artist Danny Shervin spends an incredible amount of time perfecting his nature-inspired imagery only to set it on fire once he’s done. For a conventional work of art, this would probably be the end, but it’s the contrary for Shervin—the flames bring his pieces to life. Working under the name Paint With Gunpowder, Shervin meticulously assembles ammunition on wood and canvas.
