Massive Balloon-Filled Rooms Turn Adults Into Kids Again

Contemporary art doesn't get much more fun than this! First created in 1998 with white balloons and then redone many times over, Half the Air in a Given Space is an interactive installation, by British artist Martin Creed, that's comprised of hundreds or thousands of balloons of the same color. As the name suggests, half a room's entire volume is filled with air-inflated balloons and then visitors are encouraged to walk through.

Building’s Wind-Driven Kinetic Facade

Wind is an invisible element. By creating a wind-driven kinetic facade on the the blank wall of the Randal Museum in San Francisco, Charles Sowers Studios sought to give it shape and form. Windswept is a scientific observational instrument that consists of 612 freely-rotating directional arrows. Each arrow acts as a discrete data point, visually revealing the complex and ever-changing ways the wind interacts with the building and its surrounding environment.

Giant Fiberglass Ants Overtake Government Building

While a house taken over by ants usually leads to loud screaming and plans to immediately call an exterminator, the fiberglass ants covering the facade of the National Congress building in Botoga actually beckons viewers to come closer and take a better look. Artist Rafael Gomez Barros covered the building with 1,300 large fiberglass ants as a symbol: the ants represent those who were displaced due to the ongoing arms conflict in Colombia.

Giant House of Cards Sculpture

Auckland-based designer Fletcher Vaughan believes that the second half of the 20th century was a wild party, full of gas-guzzling cars, cheap energy, and vast personal wealth from a booming economy. Fast forward to today and we are waking up to a nasty hangover, facing the consequences of last night's excess. To represent the the precarious balancing act we are performing with our planet, he created this giant house of cards installation titled Collapse.
