Renowned artist Takashi Murakami has a portfolio that transcends a single genre of creativity. Working across fine art, fashion, animation, and more, the man known as the “Warhol of Japan” is recognized for his vibrant imagery and iconic characters, including the smiling flower and Mr. DOB. Now, Murakami’s genius has come to The Broad, a contemporary art museum in Los Angeles, in a show called Takashi Murakami: Stepping on the Tail of a Rainbow.

Hyperrealistic Pencil Drawings Explore Gender by Depicting Female Heads on Male Bodies

American artist Clio Newton explores gender and femininity in her series of hyperrealistic charcoal drawings called Venus. Inspired by the art of Renaissance masters like Michelangelo and Botticelli, she depicts an array of young subjects with female heads and male bodies. The seamless transition is intended to speak to the gender fluidity of this era. Originally from the East Coast in the United States, Newton currently lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland.
