Giant Urban Flowers Bloom When Pedestrians Pass By Under Them

Architecture firm HQ Architects developed a public installation that offers an artistic aesthetic to the environment through playfully responsive design. The Warde project, located in Jerusalem's Vallero Square–an urban area that's in poor condition–is being given a set of towering flower sculptures, big enough to draw the gaze of the entire plaza. Rather than fighting against the marketplace's metropolitan nature, designers wanted to work in harmony with the municipality.

Artist Transforms Driftwood into Stunning Sculptures of Animals in Motion

Sculptor James Doran-Webb uses pieces of driftwood to form stunning creatures that look as though they're in motion. In a scale that's larger than life, rabbits, horses, and birds appear to be in mid hop, gallop, and flap. Webb's work with the highly-textured wood is methodical, and he fuses many small pieces to mimic large swaths of hair or fur.

Artist Alison Moritsugu captures the essence of Mother Nature in her log paintings. These environmental pieces utilize trees as both the subject and the canvas. The fragmented nature of the trees allow the designer to paint directly onto the rustic wood. Once her realistic work is complete, what results is a painting that explores the history of American landscapes.

Interview: Erin Hanson Pioneers the Energetic Style of Open-Impressionism

Artist Erin Hanson began to study oil painting when she was only eight years old. By the age of ten, she had completed her first paid commission. Her portfolio of work only grew from there, and after graduating from UC Berkeley, the creative established open-impressionism–her own distinct style of painting. Before long, other artists started emulating Hanson's technique and she was credited as the inventor of this contemporary style.
