Surreal Collages of Vintage Portraits by Matthieu Bourel

German artist Matthieu Bourel works in collage to create characters and scenes that we've never seen before. In his series titled Duplicity Serie, he fractures vintage photographs and arranges them in multiple ways over a single composition; pieces of the image are extracted and expanded, and someone's face might appear several times in different iterations. The visually compelling works have elements of surrealism in them.

Artist Designs DIY Paper Templates for Adorable 3D Geometric Animals

Germany-based artist Wolfram Kampffmeyer, aka Paperwolf, builds beautiful geometric animal designs that are constructed completely out of paper. The artist studied computer animation in school and eventually realized that, although he enjoys creating virtual 3D models, he much prefers building them with his hands out of paper. Each one of his playful sculptures comes as a template of pre-cut pieces with perforated edges to allow for easy folding.

Amazing Drawings Appear to Pop off the Page in 3D

Artist João A. Carvalho, aka J. Desenhos, has mastered the fine art of 3D illusions by transforming what appears to be typical pieces of lined notebook paper into magical illustrations that jump off the page. He uses intense shadows and creative perspectives, and even draws in the blue lines, to produce visual distortions across the flat surfaces. The talented illustrator's playful doodles give depth to each two-dimensional canvas.

Dynamic Paintings Feature the Energy of Fencers in Motion

Brooklyn-based Canadian visual artist Aaron Li-Hill creates dynamic images by blurring the lines between illustration, sculpture, graffiti, graphic design, painting, and drawing. The results are works filled with an animated power that emanates from each piece. In just one week, on November 8, 2014, Li-Hill's first solo show will open at White Walls in San Francisco. The collection will feature the artist's study of a fencing culture portrayed in motion.
