Poignant Wooden Sculpture Conveys Layers of Human Conflicts Contained in One Figure

Spain-based artist David de la Mano captures the strife of human conflict in his latest work of art. Titled Under the Skin, this large-scale wooden sculpture was installed at the European Parliament for a collective exhibition on human rights. It features a silhouette of a woman's head containing numerous scenes of conflict painted inside. De la Mano uses his background in sculpture and public art to convey many narratives in a single piece.

New Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King Statue Was Unveiled in Boston to Mixed Reviews

Nearly 60 years ago, on April 23, 1965, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered an emotional speech on Boston Common. Recently, the city honored this event and MLK's legacy with the unveiling of a new statue by contemporary artist Hank Willis Thomas. Titled The Embrace, this massive 20-foot-tall abstract sculpture was inspired by the love between King and his wife, Coretta Scott King.

Artist Adds Hyperrealistic Paintings on Spherical Canvases

Unlike sculpture, traditional paintings usually capture one view of a subject. Tokyo-based artist Daisuke Samejima, however, applies his talent for hyperrealism to an unconventional canvas. In his Flatball series, he captures peaceful Japanese suburbia on three-dimensional globes. As a result, viewers can literally hold the immersive scene in their hands. Due to the spherical shape of these depictions, they capture a 36o° view of each place.
