‘Beyond Monet’ Exhibition Is the Largest Immersive Experience in Canada

All over the world, immersive art exhibitions are providing a new way for people to enjoy famous paintings. The latest of these shows celebrates the father of Impressionism, Claude Monet, in a never-before-seen experience of his work. Installed at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Beyond Monet spans 50,000 square feet, making it the “largest immersive experience in Canada.” Each room of the convention center captures a different facet of the painter's creative life.

Impressionism and ‘Star Wars’ Collide in Paintings Inspired by a Galaxy Far, Far Away

Turkish artist Naci Caba creates fantastical artworks based on science fiction. Some of his most popular pieces are his original Star Wars-themed oil paintings, which take fan art to a whole new level. From X-wing starfighters whizzing through the atmosphere to views of the imposing Death Star looming above the horizon, his epic canvases are sure to delight any die-hard devotee. Caba made illustrations for stories and coloring books before he began working with oil paint.

This Japanese Village Creates Massive Rice Paddy Art Every Year

Since 1993, the village of Inakadate in northern Japan has been revitalizing its culture through amazing rice paddy art, or tambo āto. Every May, about 1,300 volunteers come together to plant different varieties of rice in an intricate design. By the time summer comes along, their hard work is in full bloom, attracting thousands of tourists to the site.

Christopher Columbus Statue in Mexico City Will Be Replaced by a Monument To Indigenous Women

Mexico joins the long list of countries gripped in a post-colonial reckoning with problematic historical figures as its capital city puts plans in motion to replace a long-standing monument to Christopher Columbus. Previously located on one of Mexico City’s main thoroughfares, Paseo de la Reforma, the 19th-century bronze statue of the controversial explorer was removed by city officials last October for scheduled restoration.
