These Heartwarming Animal Comics Teach the Value of Friendship and Kindness

In a bid to simply spread some joy, Malaysian artist Chow Hon Lam creates an ongoing comic series called Buddy Gator. It features an alligator as the main character, but he’s nowhere near as scary as gators are often perceived to be. This particularly friendly creature is a reminder to “never judge a book by its cover.” Lam started illustrating his comic around a year ago during the start of the pandemic.

Delicate Fabric Sculptures Inspired by the Small Wonders Found in Nature [Interview]

Enthralled by fabric and guided by her intuition, artist Mariko Kusumoto creates sculptures inspired by the things that fascinate her. The pieces, sometimes wearable, often revolve around the ocean, and marine inhabitants—such as coral—inspire the forms. They pair perfectly with the softness and translucent qualities of fabric; the pieces have a billowy quality to them as if they could be under the sea. Kusumoto has been working with fabric for the last eight years.

For what small shops lack in size, they certainly make up for in charm and personality. Artist Angela Hao captures the diversity of quaint Japanese storefronts in her colorful Procreate illustrations. Although she is based in the U.S., the artist is able to digitally travel across the streets of Tokyo and Osaka using Google Street View, finding numerous buildings for creative inspiration along the way.
