Sleek "Baselamp" Can Turn Ordinary Objects into Illuminating Lamps

The ingenious Baselamp by Luke Lamp Co. can transform almost any object into a lamp. Anything that allows light to pass through it–a glass bottle, flower vase, fish bowl, etc.–can now easily turn into a functioning light source. Just set the item on the sleek, minimalist base and watch it instantly illuminate the room. To produce Baselamp, designer Luke Kelly spent over a year and a half focusing on the product's versatility and ease of use.

Hanging Spherical Lodges Provide Cozy, Eco-Friendly Retreat in the Forests of Laos

The Nam Et-Phou Louey Biodiversity Conservation Area in northern Laos, Vietnam could soon be the site of unique spherical eco-lodges that hang from the trees. These unconventional accommodations would allow visitors to observe and immerse themselves within the gorgeous landscape near the Nam Poung village. They're part of a community-led design project by Cole Company, aimed at increasing eco-tourism and jobs for local villagers. Structures like bird and insect nests inspired these suspended sleeping pods.

DIY Shape-Shifting Lamp Lets You Stack and Build the Lamp of Your Dreams

Craftsman Mike Warren was inspired by the beauty of the Babele lamp by Manifattura Italian Design, but unwilling to pay the high sale price. So, the determined designer decided to hand craft a version of the lamp, which is a playful, shape-shifting piece that can be arranged and stacked to your liking. Warren made the replica using free software and about $15 worth of supplies.
