Creative Uncle Designs Vintage Toy Packaging for Cash Gifts to Nieces and Nephews

When Donnachaidha Ó Chionnaigh learned that his nieces and nephews wanted cash for Christmas, he wasn’t surprised. Despite the straightforward request, he still want to do something more than just handing them some folded bills. “Cash as a gift, while practical, always feels impersonal,” he tweeted, “so I made special packaging.” Chionnaigh’s creative solution reimagined the cash as if it were a doll or figurine, and he housed the money in vintage-inspired blister packs.

Shari Austrian, aka Little Brick Lane, celebrates people's homes by constructing LEGO versions of them that are built to scale. Using the iconic bricks and Minifigs, she meticulously recreates the interior and exterior of these places so that when she's done, they are a three-dimensional, pixelated version of the places her clients love. Austrian has had a life-long interest in miniatures and played with LEGOs as a kid.

Thanks to its minimal design, the Residential Fire Extinguisher by Japanese company Morita Miyata was awarded the 2019 Good Design Good Focus Award—an honor given to natural disaster prevention and recovery designs that aim to enrich lives, society, and industry. The idea behind the winning design was “take bosai (Japanese for ‘disaster preparedness') into your lifestyle,” and its goal was to show how easy it is to integrate fire extinguishers into the home.
