Food Artist Creates Edible Worlds Out of Everyday Ingredients

As a child, you might have believed the moon was made of cheese or perhaps dreamt of visiting Willy Wonka’s magical candy world. Although we can’t fly you to the moon or gift you a golden ticket, we can introduce you to the whimsical food art of Carl Warner. The artist uses everyday ingredients to create edible landscapes that look oddly familiar. The series—aptly titled Foodscapes—merges Warner’s boundless imagination with his talent for food photography.

Culinary Artist Makes ‘3D Jelly Cakes’ Encasing Edible Scenes of Nature Within

Cake maker Siew Heng Boon crafts confections that don’t look edible at all. Her glass-like creations are instead akin to office paperweights with florals and fish encased beneath clear surfaces. Known as 3D jelly cakes, these confections are made with gelatin or seaweed jelly powder and use specific tools to inject colorful motifs onto a clear base. Boon’s cakes are an awe-inspiring example of when food transcends into edible works of art.

Artist Creates Visual Diary with Daily Miniature Paintings on Used Tea Bags

At the beginning of 2015, New York-based artist Ruby Silvious embarked on a new project called 363 Days of Tea, a visual diary of miniature paintings and collages on used, emptied-out tea bags. While many discard their used tea bags, Silvious celebrates the popular, daily tea-drinking ritual by recycling them for use as mini canvases. Three years later, the artist continues to create her daily paintings, illustrating her day-to-day life.
