The Tragic Story of the Majestic Tiger

A Bengal tiger drinks from the Patpara Nala waterhole. Steve Winter has been photographing wild animals for more than 20 years, mainly for National Geographic. He doesn't like to think of himself as just a wildlife photographer, but more like a photojournalist in the natural world. In addition to being a photographer, he's also an activist. Winter is the media director for Panthera, a big cat preservation nonprofit organization.

Vintage Photos Glow with Tiny Holes of Light

Photographer Amy Friend finds vintage images online, in vintage shops or in old family albums and then alters them by allowing tiny little holes of light to pass through. The result is an incredibly mesmerizing series called Dar alla Luc, an Italian phrase used to describe the moment of birth, as she aims to give the photographs back to the light. The series began through her desire to see the photograph as an object.

Photographer David Johnson accepted that challenge during the International Fireworks Show in Ottawa, Canada, and found countless moments of inspiration across the sky.
