In his enchanting portrait series called I Found the Silence, self-taught photographer Martin Stranka places his subjects in the surreal realm of dreams, where they interact with the ethereal movements and mysteries of the natural world. In sepia-toned fields hazed with fog, his models meet swallows and stags; in other blue-tinted settings, they stand close to dazzling stars or dive deep into uncharted ocean waters.
Stranka's scenes challenge the restraints of gravity, with the models rising and floating weightlessly above the earth, taken by the breeze with feathers swirling around their ankles. The imagery seems to capture the wild bounds of the inner human psyche, showing each subject on an illusory exploration of his or her hidden self.
