Clever Stay-at-Home Dad Creates Playful Pancakes

This stay-at-home dad has figured out a way to make breakfast really fun, and sometimes educational at the same time. Illustrator and math teacher Nathan Shields works together with his two kids to create all kinds of fun designs with just some pancake batter and a hot pan. He has made everything from sharks and Star Wars creatures to a portrait of Zach Galifianakis.

Shields uses a squeegee bottle to draw out the pancake batter, laying out the darker shadows first so that they cook longer and then adding in the highlights last so that they cook for less time. One flip and the faces, figures, or animals are revealed as a delicious breakfast treat.

Shields says he began entertaining his kids with silly pancakes while living in Saipan and the tradition has continued now that the family lives in Washington state. Shields is a creative dad who fosters his kids' creativity and it looks like these three have a ton of fun working together. You can see some of their teamwork in action in the video below.
