New Layered Glass Ocean Sculptures Capture the Spirit of the Sea

Self-taught artist Ben Young has been creating glass sculptures for over 15 years. His beautifully layered pieces capture the spirit of the ocean through their combination of textured concrete and semi-translucent glass. Each hand-cut piece is a dissection of the sea, cutting away to give a glimpse of the underwater terrain, while delicate bronze compliments, originally sculpted by Young in wax, set off the work.

Artist Paints Spectacular Glow-In-The-Dark Galaxy Ceiling to Help 4-Year-Old Sleep

When Crispin Young Wilson‘s friend relayed that her 4-year-old son Benjamin was having trouble sleeping in his room, the server hardware repairer put her side hobby to good use. The Hood River, Oregon native spent the day painting a spectacular, glow-in-the-dark galaxy on the ceiling of Benjamin's room. “[My friend] has a little boy who refused to sleep in his own room,” she shared.

Belgian filmmaker Vincent Bal has made four feature films and numerous commercials, but the long creative process filmmaking requires often left him frustrated. Combining a love for comic strips with a bit of creativity, his quick doodles incorporating shadows have become an unexpected creative outlet. By using a variety of objects, Bal is able to find a form within the shadow cast, deftly taking his pen to fill in what's missing.

Artist “Fixes” Broken Wooden Furniture With Modern Translucent Materials

Brazilian artist Tatiane Freitas blends classic and contemporary design for her My New Old Chair series. In a twist on kintsugi—a Japanese tradition where fractured pottery is repaired with gold—broken furniture is revitalized through the addition of acrylic resin. The resulting contemporary, yet vintage, pieces demonstrate a harmony of opposing forces. In fact, it's this push and pull that interests the artist.
