The Enormous Potential of Fiber Optic Art

Lyn Godley, a designer and artist currently based in Philadelphia, is working on a very unique installation. It's a series of fiber optic artwork that has a great potential for possible use in healthcare settings. The pieces are all nature-based images that have been drawn over with charcoal and then outfitted with hundreds of fiber optics to create unique and beautiful visuals. However, aesthetics are only a small part of this project.

Ordinary Objects Redesigned as Useless Items

Italian artist Giuseppe Colarusso, aka Mister Solo, redesigns ordinary objects as playful, nonsensical items in his series titled Improbabilit, translated as Unlikely. Clearly inspired by Fluxus, Dada, and the works of Marcel Duchamp, the artist presents a whimsical array of everyday objects whose core components have been substituted with opposing elements. By replacing the handles of cutlery and eating utensils with strands of rope, Colarusso redefines their usability and purpose, ultimately rendering the objects useless.

Tiny Plastic Cityscapes Serve as Homes for Hermit Crabs

Hermit crabs carry their homes on their back in the form of an empty seashell that they scoop up and use both as shelter and as protection from predators. Due to the human tendency to collect the colorful objects along sandy shores, the hermit crabs don't have a lot of shell options and, as a result, they are becoming more and more homeless.

Each feathery fowl–a trio consisting of an owl, a crow, and a falcon–boasts a voluminous mane, the kind meant for shampoo and conditioner commercials. Whether you're a blonde, brunette, or redhead, there's a bird to represent you.
