My Modern Met Exclusive: Whitewater Rafting Inside the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is often rated the #1 Natural Wonder to visit in North America. Many people have viewed it from above. The park receives approximately 4.5 million visitors each year, however, only 27,000 people see the Grand Canyon by river. Intrigued and inspired, just over a week ago, I set off to document what it's like to see the Grand Canyon from the depths of the Colorado River.

Fingerprint-like Portraits Created with a Single Spiraling Line

Zagreb-based Croatian digital artist Paolo Ceric (aka Patakk) creates incredibly realistic images with a single spiraling line. The long, winding mark manages to simulate the appearance of lifelike figures through the expertly administered boldness and thickness of the line in any given spot. By diluting and condensing the saturation of the sole circling contour, the artist is able to mimic light and shadow, allowing it to reflect a sense of depth and realism.

Miniature People Living in an Unusually Whimsical World

In this series entitled Minimize, photographer William Kass produces an unusual viewpoint of life as experienced by miniature little people. He blends toy figures with a variety of regular sized props to create the illusion of great proportions within a very small space. Utilizing immense patience and precision, Kass composes each scene within the frame of his camera, obtaining the perfect perspective in order to capture the playfully whimsical narratives.
