Rubin’s Vase with Hidden Royal Faces

Today, I'm all about celebrating The Queen's Diamond Jubilee! Of course, we all love a good illusion and this vase with hidden faces is something quite special. Though it was created to commemorate The Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Rubin's Vase has now gone on display at a place I'd love to visit, Camera Obscura and World of Illusions in Edinburgh, to celebrate this year's festivities.

Classic Art Recreated Using Plastic from the Ocean & Lighters

The Great Wave is a classic image we see again and again, but artist Chris Jordan puts a new twist on it by recreating the unmistakable piece with 2.4 million pieces of plastic. His reinterpretation, entitled Gyre, is composed entirely of plastic collected from the Pacific Ocean. Jordan takes massive global matters like man-made environmental pollution and transforms it into a work of art.

Overhead Shots of Car Poolers in Mexico

Living and working in Mexico, photographer Alejandro Cartagena investigates many social issues through his documentary photography projects. His recent series, Car Poolers, features overhead portraits of workers in Mexico catching a ride to work on the back of a truck. Some riders are camouflaged into the scenes while others stand out against the solid color backdrop of the truck bed.

Futuristic Lotus-Shaped City in the Sky

City in the Sky is an architectural design concept for, as its title suggests, a city in the sky. According to Bulgaria-born, London-based architect Tsvetan Toshkov, the project is “about an imaginary tranquil oasis above the mega developed and polluted city where one can escape from the everyday noise, stress and dirt.” The aerial escapes are meant to soar high above our tallest skyscrapers.
