Museum of the African Diaspora Marks 10 Years of Its Emerging Artists Program

The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Emerging Artists Program (EAP) with the announcement of its 2026-2027 cohort. Bay Area artists Jasmine Ross, Demetri Broxton, Dorian Reid, and Tahirah Rasheed earned selection from hundreds of applicants. Each will present a solo exhibition at the museum over the coming year.

BINI Makes History as the First-Ever Filipino Group To Perform at Coachella

Coachella 2026 has been stacked with many memorable moments, including some historic firsts in which women of color were at the forefront. Colombian singer Karol G became the first Latina to headline the festival, commanding the Main Stage on Sunday night. A couple of days before that, girl group BINI became the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, opening new doors for Pinoy Pop.

Artist Works With Indigenous Communities To Build a “Water Sanctuary” on Salt Flats in Argentina

According to the World Economic Forum, extracting a ton of lithium—to manufacture rechargeable lithium-ion batteries for smartphones, laptops, and electric vehicles—requires around 2.2 million liters (almost 600,000 gallons) of water. While this amount would put any region of the world under environmental stress, it is particularly felt around the arid region of Salinas Grandes, a salt flat in northern Argentina that sits on one of the world’s largest lithium reserves.

First Film To Feature a Robot, Once Lost, Has Been Found and Ready To View

An early sci-fi film that was unseen for over a century is now free to view, thanks to the Library of Congress. After about 10 pre-WWI reels of film were dropped off at the institution, rusted and out of shape, librarians carefully began taking them apart and inspecting them. During the restoration process, they realized that they were looking at Gugusse et l’Automate (Gugusse and the Automaton) by George Méliès.
