While many kids will spend October 31st this year trick-or-treating as Rey or Kylo Ren from The Force Awakens, one young boy will be celebrating a very classic Star Wars Hothoween. Clint Case, a leather artist and loving father, designed a one-of-a-kind Tauntaun for his son.
The mythical Tauntauns—those shaggy and horned snow lizards that Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance domesticated in The Empire Strikes Back, during their visit to the ice planet—have seen their fair share of fan recreations but Case's exquisite model would definitely make George Lucas proud. The time-consuming costume was a project that took the devoted dad four months, 100 glue sticks, 2 yards of fur, and one goat mask to complete. He made the Tauntaun “ridable” by having his son, dressed as Luke Skywalker himself, step into the rear of the costume—therefore, controlling the Tauntaun's back legs with his own walking feet. The costume's tiny arms dangle in front, as a T-rex or larger lizard's might. Suspender-like straps secure the boy inside the costume, transforming boy and Tauntaun into a nostalgic scene of Star Wars past.
Even more majestic than the pictures was the video that Case took of his son's first Tauntaun ride. He posted it on Facebook with the caption: “In tough times like these, all the world needs is a boy and his Tauntaun.” Ride on, young Padawan, ride on.
This is what the boy's Tauntaun looks like under all that fur.
