I Love Modern Architecture – A Master Ship Overlooking the Sea: Antwerp, Belgium

I like the design and functionality of this ship-like structure. Zaha Hadid Architects has won a competition to build the the new headquarters for the Antwerp Port Authority on the harbor of Antwerp, Belgium. The new Port House will solve the pressing shortage of workspace as it will be able to house approximately 500 staff in a single new building.

The new Port House design consists of two entities: the existing fire station below, and a new crystalline volume lifted above the retained building. Together they form an impressive new landmark as the headquarters of the Antwerp Port Authority, overlooking the city and port, and symbolizing Antwerp as a port of global importance and a major economic driver of the region. The estimated construction cost is 31.5 million euros ($40.7 mill) excluding VAT and architect's fees, and completion is set for 2013.
