16 months ago, photographer, web designer, and blogger Johan Lolos left his native Belgium to fulfill his dream of traveling the world. After spending a year in Australia, Lolos headed southeast to New Zealand, where he recently completed a three-month road trip around the island country. He and three other friends lived and traveled in a camper van, splitting fuel and food costs while trying to spend more money on memorable experiences than material objects. Overall, the trip cost him approximately $1,200 for three incredible months of adventures on the road.
To help finance his travels, Lolos takes advantage of his savvy social media and photography skills. The world explorer has close to 70,000 followers on Instagram thanks to the amazing images that he posts. This large following gives him the opportunity to work with different destinations and tourism boards that provide him some activities and services for free. As a result, the nomad can continue to share his journey with thousands of people around the world, giving his followers a taste of the stunning beauty that New Zealand has to offer.
According to Lolos, his wanderlust-worthy photos are about more than just documenting the trip. He says, “I'm trying to be inspiring for people that want to discover new places.”
The traveler recently set up base in Wanaka, where he plans to stay until September later this year. To keep up with his journey, be sure to follow him on Instagram or Facebook.
