Rotating Bike Pedals Form Colorful Circles

I loved my spirograph toy when I was a kid, and this Drawing Machine by Australian visual artist Joseph Griffiths looks like even more fun! Griffiths says, “I make drawings and installations which explore my interests in nature, urbanism, folklore, technology, craft, and the relationship between creativity and survival.”

The mixed media installation requires a user to pedal a stationary bike to create unique pieces of art. It's a combination of exercise and random patterns of artistic creation! Each time a user rotates the pedals, the front wheel moves an attached device, which is filled with colorful markers. As the user pedals, the device spins around, creating circular drawings on the wall. There is also a device attached to the handlebars, and the side-to-side movements of the user form a secondary artwork above the circle. Users could be entertained for hours, spinning away on this machine to create new and mesmerizing combinations of colors.
