When the lights go off in Keti Sidamonidze's bedroom, a cleverly-painted mural makes her walls beam with life. Under daytime brightness, her wall appears to display a conventional piece of artwork, one that depicts a cat sitting on a crescent moon, overlooking a city below. Only in the dark does the fantastical scene take on an entirely new look–a ferocious tiger suddenly appears in a glittering night sky.
Since 2012, Sidamonidze had been enamored with the idea of a glow-in-the-dark mural, but states that she has “no talent for painting.” To make her fairy tale dream a vivid reality, she enlisted the help of artist Giorgi Makharashvili. He used conventional paint for the always-visible elements (such as the cat), and special pigments for the invisible details. The result is a unique and mesmerizing piece of wall art that Sidamonidze is more than happy to fall asleep beside.
