Impressive Physical Strength Paired with London Architecture

Freerunner is a collaboration between self-taught photographer Pip as he documented athlete and champion freerunner Tim Shieff in impressive physical displays. The intention for the project was to create a series that was different from the average sports photography. So, the two ventured out to average, often overlooked locations around London, where Shieff scaled the sides of buildings, balanced on ledges, and hung, one-handed, from walls, in an elegant showcase of his amazing physical capabilities.

The London-based photographer found dramatic lights and shadows to illuminate the curves of Shieff's strong upper body as well as the texture of the buildings. The athlete's gymnastic flair is conveyed as a beautiful, poetic art form where he uses his environment in unexpected ways. “What I try to do is put a bit more sparkle in this concrete environment,” says Shieff, “It is a meditation for me, it puts better perspective on life, what really matters.”

By identifying single, static moments within the normally energetic and lively process of freerunning, Pip and Shieff invite viewers to stop and reflect upon the impressive potential of our own bodies.
