Since the late 1960s, the land art movement has produced incredible art within nature, art which is composed primarily by the natural elements at hand. Rocks, leaves, and water are the medium and terrain becomes the canvas. These works are intentionally impermanent, they're often left to change and then erode, reclaimed by the natural elements.
Sally J. Smith is an environmental artist who creates ethereal sculptures that illustrate the simple beauty of the natural world. Her works exist in complete harmony with their surroundings, as her materials she builds upon are found entirely on site. One sculpture shows red leaves frozen within a round circle of ice, while another is composed of sticks in the water, intentionally placed so that an illusion of a whole circle is formed.
Her Land Art 2015 wall calendar from Amber Lotus Publishing showcases photographs of twelve of her earth art sculptures. If you're a fan of Andy Goldsworthy, Martin Hill, or Nils-Udo, you'll come to love and appreciate the work of Sally J. Smith.
