Emma Taggart is a Staff Writer and Video Editor at My Modern Met. She earned a BA in Fashion and Textile Design at the University of Ulster in Belfast. Originally from Northern Ireland, she lived in Berlin for many years, where she fostered a career in the arts, dabbling in everything from illustration and animation to music and ceramics. She now calls Edinburgh home, where she continues to work as a writer, illustrator, and ceramicist. Her ceramics, often combined with hand-painted animation frames, capture playful scenes that celebrate freedom and movement, and blend her passion for art with storytelling. Her popular Instagram account shows that the longer your hair, the more fun you can have with styling it, and Elisabeth is never short of inspiration. With over 11,000 followers, her creative flat lay snapshots showcase her wavy golden locks, artistically arranged alongside flowers and leaves.

Artist Reimagines Modern-Day Celebrities as 1990s Superstars

Most millennials will tell you that the 1990s were arguably the best decade to grow up in. ‘90s kids had MTV, iconic pop music, classic teen dramas, heartthrob crushes, and a standout (denim-dominated) sense of style, creating memories that many still treasure today. To celebrate ‘90s nostalgia, a digital artist known as Future Punk has Photoshopped modern-day celebrities to look as though they’re 1990s superstars.

Wabi-Sabi: The Japanese Art of Finding Beauty in Imperfect Ceramics

While the Western world often favors perfection, traditional Japanese culture celebrates the beauty of transience and imperfection—best encapsulated in a term known as wabi-sabi. This expression is intimately tied to Buddhism (specifically Zen) and derived from the Three Marks of Existence (or sanbōin)—the Buddhist teaching that all things have “impermanence” (mujō), “suffering” or damage (ku), and “non-self” (kū). Therefore, items exhibiting wabi-sabi are seen to be more beautiful with age.
