Optical Illusion Graffiti Creates Portal to a Parallel Universe on the Side of a Building

Parisian graffiti artist Astro contorts flat architectural facades into illusory vortexes with a vibrant graphic twist. His painted patterns combine smooth, swirling curves and calligraphy with sharper shapes in dynamically detailed designs that are eye-catching on their own; and, as if to suck his viewers farther into each piece, he adds the appearance of dark, receding chasms, tunneling deep into the walls.

Mysterious Silhouettes Stand in Surreal Portals to Imaginary New Worlds

By manipulating photographs with a mix of different digital editing skills, photographer Nate Hill contorts stunning landscapes into surreal swirls, revealing imaginary portals to alternate worlds. At the center of each of his circling scenes is one tiny silhouette, paused before the center of the spiral, as if contemplating a leap into a distant realm.

Floral Embroidery Stiched Into Used War Helmets Contrast War and Peace

Among today's artists who are creatively pushing the boundaries of embroidery, Lithuanian talent Severija Incirauskaite-Kriauneviciene is one to watch. She stitches flowers and other sweet depictions into metal objects like pans, pails, and car hoods to subvert traditional embroidery culture, juxtaposing the tough and rusty against the soft and cozy.
