Pinar Noorata is the Managing Editor at My Modern Met. She is a writer, editor, and content creator based in Brooklyn, NY. She earned her BA in Film and Media Studies from CUNY Hunter College and is an alumni of the Center for Arts Education’s Career Development Program in NYC. She has worked at major TV, film, and publishing companies as well as other independent media businesses. Oscar Nominees Playfully Recreated as LEGO Movie Posters

Following the success of The LEGO Movie and in anticipation of the 86th Academy Awards, illustrator and graphic designer Old Red Jalopy has created nine posters for Yahoo! Movies of the Oscars Best Picture nominees, as though they were all LEGO movies. Each recreation features the stars of the last year's most esteemed motion pictures as smiling, blocky figures vying for the top spot as the Best Picture of the year.

Courageous Cancer Patient Recreates the "Birth of Venus"

Washington DC-based portrait photographer Jonathan Thorpe captures an incredible image of his friend and model Heather Byrd, in which the young woman (who also happens to be a cancer patient) is at the center of a thought-provoking recreation of Botticelli's Birth of Venus. Standing in as the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Byrd is in the nude, exposing a deep sense of vulnerability amidst a cold, unforgiving hospital-esque environment.

Hilarious Photos of a Man with Random Objects in His Beard

Beard and Picks Married photographers Stacy and Pierce Thiot of Red Poppy Photography have begun experimenting with how many objects can fit into Pierce's beard, tracking their progress in a single-topic blog titled Will It Beard. Taking its title from a play on the popular Will It Blend? video series, the images deliver just what you'd expect–straight-forward shots of Pierce's bushy beard stuffed with random objects.

Incredible Sculptures at New Zealand Sandcastle Competition

The 3rd New Zealand Sandcastle Competition took place over the weekend, on February 8th, drawing in crowds of participants and viewers. Both professional and amateur sandcastle builders took part in the fun summer festivities on New Brighton Beach, constructing their elaborate designs with unique methods of molding grains of sand together and carving into the fragile material.
