Sara Barnes is a Staff Editor at My Modern Met, Manager of My Modern Met Store, and co-host of the My Modern Met Top Artist Podcast. As an illustrator and writer living in Seattle, she chronicles illustration, embroidery, and beyond through her blog Brown Paper Bag and Instagram @brwnpaperbag. She wrote a book about embroidery artist Sarah K. Benning titled "Embroidered Life" that was published by Chronicle Books in 2019. Sara is a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She earned her BFA in Illustration in 2008 and MFA in Illustration Practice in 2013.

Creative Dad Imagines Kids’ Drawings as Delightfully Bizarre Real-Life Animals

Children’s drawings are especially delightful because of the imagination that's contained within them. Sure, the anatomy of an animal might be way off, but that’s part of the fun. Artist and father-of-two Tom Curtis celebrates this creativity by bringing kids’ artworks to life. In his ongoing series titled Things I have drawn, Curtis uses Photoshop to transform crayon sketches into three-dimensional figures that look unexpectedly real, albeit extremely bizarre.

Adorable Piglet Has Her Own Newborn Photoshoot Just Like a Baby Human

Newborn photoshoots are often reserved for humans, but photographer Cashlie White shows that baby animals rival them in cuteness. She recently shared a series featuring an adorable piglet named Dynamite who is outfitted with all the things you'd typically see in newborn portraits—soft blankets, stuffed animals, and tiny headbands. The only difference? Dynamite has a shiny pink snout. Coupled with her sleepy smile, you can’t help but say “aww” to each of these sweet photos.

Long-Exposure Photos Turn Rock Climbing Routes Into Epic Rainbow Bursts Across the Landscape

Luke Rasmussen, aka PhLuke Photos, creates rainbows that illuminate the desert at night. With his incredible long-exposure photography and rock climbing skills, he produces trails of colors that span the height of tall formations. Rasmussen does this by strapping LED lights to his body and then leaving the shutter on his camera open. He then quickly works his way up and down the chosen rock.
