22-Year-Old Fox Terrier Named Pebbles Is Officially the Oldest Living Dog

Plenty of sleep, excellent food, and lots and lots of love are the secrets to longevity for a 22-year-old dog named Pebbles. Maybe there's something to learn from the pint-sized pooch because the 4-pound Toy Fox Terrier was just confirmed as the “oldest dog living” by Guinness World Records. And even though that's pretty old in dog years, she still seems to have plenty of time ahead of her.

As any pet owner would know, losing a beloved animal can be hard, but it can be especially difficult to cope with a pet that’s gone missing. There’s no real closure. In the 1980s, a family in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil—the Almeidas—experienced this with their pet tortoise named Manuela. The reptile was the beloved pet of a then-8-year-old Lenita de Almeida. During a renovation of the family's home, the reptile suddenly vanished.

Baby Giraffe Struggling To Walk Has New Spring in Step Thanks to Custom Leg Braces

Few animals walk as tall as giraffes, but for a precious female giraffe calf named Msituni (pronounced see tune nee)—which means in the forest in Swahili—it was a struggle to stand up and walk alongside her fellow bespeckled friends. The now 3-month-old giraffe was born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park with a condition called carpal hyperextension, which affects the bones in her legs, similar to those in a human wrist.

Photographer Is Helping Overlooked Shelter Pets Get Adopted Through Striking Pawtraits

Maggie Epling knew that she wanted to give back during her summer break from college. Interested in photography and helping animals in need, she found the perfect volunteer opportunity at her local Pike County Animal Shelter in Pike, Kentucky. There, she used her camera to snap portraits of cats and dogs and paid particular focus on black shelter animals. The results are striking glamour shots of cats and dogs in search of their forever home.
